Day 1:
Went to work, reach company and got changed into the ugly uniform pant for the very first time. Seriously, it's damn ugly. I have to no idea for how long i haven't been wearing high waist pants already. Gosh, so u can forget bout seeing me posting any photos here. Anyway, i didn't get to take any photos cause I went there for fire fighting ma. How to take photo right?
I was the only lady in the class of about 23. You might think that since i'm the only girl, i would get the privileges right? NOPE, not a single bit. After the first half of lecture about the fire triangle, the different classes of fire and blah blah blah, we finally started our practical session in the afternoon. Oh, i forgot about the free meal and drinks they provided, is like FOC. Within a hour or so they will just give us break and have the snacks. Feels good not having to work till 8pm and came to this 2 days fire fighting course which ended like 5 plus?
So we took the bus they provided to get to the training ground. There were like a few look burnt vessel and a pile of wood. So yea, they put fire on the pile of wood and keep spraying something on it which caused the fire to be bigger, hotter. We are told to be in pair and i partner with my colleague. Luckily, i have 1 colleague tagging along if not i bet i would have die in the fire. LOL. We use the CO2 fire extinguisher and put the fire out. Just for some basic knowledge for you all, only operate fire extinguisher if pressure gauge is in the green zone and make sure there ain't any corrosion with the body. And if you're using CO2 fire extinguisher please hold onto the handle if not you would get cold burns.
After putting off the fire, we were introduced to the different kind of fire hose and to lay the fire hose. Is kinda heavy and i was sweating all over after having to lay and roll back the fire hose. Now i understand why my other colleagues said i zi xun si lu, meaning finding trouble myself which lead to my death? HAHA! Because in the first place i didn't have to go for this course, is only for process department. But i wanted to be in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to fight the fire if any thing would have happen to my company. So ya, I'm the very first lady in my company to be an ERT member.
Day 2:
First half was lecture and test. The second half was practical again. This time we were taught how to use the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Having to see the BA set reminds me of the 3rd yr in poly where we got to try it during the Industrial Safety module. It was really fun to have your friend with you. The same kind of BA, same kind of face mask but the feeling totally different. I MISS THE TIMES.... After ensuring the safety check of the apparatus and the sealing of mask, we in a group of 5 went into a very dark smoking tunnel. We cant see a single thing in there and i was the second man. I could understand how blind man go through at that moment. totally blackness and i have to crawl instead of walking. tough job if next time i gotta save anyone in this kinda place. Even if there is a tiger in front in that room, you most probably gonna went straight and kiss its ass.
After the BA thingy, was the fire fighting part. This time the fire was even bigger and even have to go up the stair to put them out. This time we used water and also foam. I get to be the nozzle man =) but it's sucha tiring thing. This course really taught me alot, hopefully i will put them into good use if necessary. a good Fire fighting ain't just putting them off but to identify the hazard before hand and prevent them, if cant then reduce and control. Now, I'm a certified ERT member. Hee
